    Guide/Getting Started

    Setting Up Permissions

ScreenKite runs an onboarding flow on first launch if any required permissions are missing. You can also manage permissions manually.

    Screen Recording (Required)

This is the essential permission. Without it, ScreenKite cannot capture your display or windows.

    1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording
    2. Enable the toggle for ScreenKite
    3. Restart ScreenKite if prompted ScreenKite checks this permission before every recording. If the permission is missing, it opens the System Settings pane directly.

    Microphone (Optional)

Only needed if you want to record voiceover narration alongside your screen.

    1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
    2. Enable the toggle for ScreenKite
    💡

Microphone permission is only requested when you enable microphone recording. System audio recording does not require microphone permission.

    Camera (Optional)

Enables the camera overlay (picture-in-picture) and camera recording during screen capture.

    1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera
    2. Enable the toggle for ScreenKite

    Accessibility (Optional)

Enables global keyboard shortcuts and the screen magnifier feature.

    1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility
    2. Click the + button and add ScreenKite from your Applications folder
    ✅

You only need Screen Recording permission to get started. Microphone, Camera, and Accessibility permissions can be granted later when you need those features.
