Overlays sit on top of the recording. Masks blur or highlight part of the screen. Each overlay and mask is a clip on the timeline, so you can move it and trim it like other clips.

Add an Overlay or a Mask

    1. Move the playhead to where the item starts.
    2. Open the Add menu in the preview toolbar.
    3. Choose an item:
      • New Text Overlay (T)
      • Add Annotation...
      • Add Media Overlay...
      • Add Blur Mask
      • Add Highlight Mask
      • Add Camera Layout
      • Add HyperFrames Overlay... (when available)
    4. Select the new clip. Its settings show in the inspector.
Add images and videos on top

    Text

    SettingWhat it does
    ContentThe text.
H Position, V PositionWhere the text sits on the canvas.
Font, Size, Bold, ItalicThe text style.
Rotation, OpacityTurns or fades the text.

    Annotations

An annotation is an Arrow or a Box. Set Type, Color, Line Width and Fill.

    Images and Video

Add Media Overlay... puts an image or a video on top of the recording. You can also drag a file from the Assets panel to the timeline. See B-Roll Library.

    SettingWhat it does
H Position, V Position, ScaleWhere the media sits and how large it is.
Rotation, OpacityTurns or fades the media.
Loop VideoPlays a short video again until the clip ends.
Source, ReplaceShows the file, and replaces it with a different file.

    Blur and Highlight Masks

    • A blur mask covers private content, such as an email address or a password.
    • A highlight mask dims everything outside one area.
    SettingWhat it does
    Mask TypeBlur or Highlight.
Position, SizeThe area of the mask.
StrengthHow strong the blur is, or how dark the area outside the highlight is.
Corner RadiusRounds the corners of the mask.
    ⚠️

A blur mask does not move with the content. If the content under a blur moves, ScreenKite shows a Coverage Check warning. Split or move the blur so that the private content stays covered. Check the export before you share it.

To turn off a mask but keep it on the timeline, click Disable. A disabled mask has no effect on playback or export.

    Camera Layouts

A camera layout clip changes how the screen and the camera are arranged for part of the video.

    1. Choose Add → Add Camera Layout.
    2. Select the clip. The inspector has the tabs Layout, Behavior and Transition.
    3. In Layout, choose a preset, such as Screen + Camera, Bubble, Side by Side, Presenter, Stacked, Screen Only, Camera Only or 3D Device Mockup.
    4. In Behavior, you can turn on Avoid cursor or Hide camera during silence.

Outside layout clips, the default camera settings in the Camera tab apply. See Webcam & Microphone.
