Export to Final Cut Pro (FCPXML)

FCPXML export writes your ScreenKite timeline as a standard FCPXML 1.11 document that Final Cut Pro can open directly. The export is fast — no video is re-encoded — and gives you a fully editable sequence in Final Cut Pro with all your cuts, speed changes, and markers already in place.

    How to Export

There are two ways to start an FCPXML export:

    From the File menu

Choose File > Export to Final Cut Pro… while a project is open in the editor. This bypasses the Export dialog entirely and opens the save panel immediately.

    From the Export dialog

    1. Click Export in the toolbar or press ⌘+E to open the Export dialog.
    2. In the Format picker, select Final Cut Pro XML.
    3. Edit the file name in the File Name field if needed.
    4. Click Export to open the save panel.
    ✅

Copy to Clipboard is not available when the Final Cut Pro XML format is selected. The button is disabled automatically.

    What the Export Dialog Shows

When Final Cut Pro XML is selected as the format, the Export dialog adjusts:

    • The Resolution, Quality, and Framerate pickers are hidden — these settings do not apply to an XML-only export.

    • An info note appears below the Format picker:

Exports the timeline as FCPXML 1.11 with absolute media paths. Video, audio, speed changes, volume, and markers are preserved. Overlays and effects are not included.

    • The Export Summary panel on the right shows three rows:

      RowValue
      FormatFCPXML 1.11
      DurationTimeline duration
      MediaAbsolute file paths

    What's Preserved / What's Not

    Audio clipsEffects and filters
Speed changes (slow motion, fast forward)Background / wallpaper

    💡

FCPXML references your media using absolute file paths — the exact locations on disk where your recordings live. If you move, rename, or delete those files after exporting, Final Cut Pro will show them as offline. Keep your media in place, or use Final Cut Pro's relink feature after moving files.

    Saving the File

After clicking Export (or choosing File > Export to Final Cut Pro…), a save panel titled Export to Final Cut Pro appears. The filename is pre-filled using your project name with a .fcpxml extension.

    1. Choose a destination folder.
    2. Click Save.

While the file is written, the status bar shows Exporting to Final Cut Pro XML…

    When the export is complete:

    • The status bar updates to a summary such as Exported 2 tracks, 14 clips to FCPXML.
    • If any track types were skipped, they are listed in parentheses, for example (skipped: overlay).
    • Finder opens automatically and reveals the exported .fcpxml file.

To import the file into Final Cut Pro, double-click it in Finder or drag it onto the Final Cut Pro icon.
