FCPXML export writes your ScreenKite timeline as an FCPXML 1.11 file. Final Cut Pro can open it. ScreenKite does not encode video for this export, so it is fast. In Final Cut Pro you get an editable timeline with your cuts, speed changes and markers.

    How to Export

You can start an FCPXML export in two ways.

    From the File menu

With a project open, choose File → Export to Final Cut Pro.... The save panel opens at once. The Export dialog does not open.

    From the Export dialog

    1. Click Export in the toolbar, or press ⌘E.
    2. In the Format picker, select Final Cut Pro XML.
    3. Edit the File name if needed.
    4. Click Export to file to open the save panel.
    💡

You cannot copy an FCPXML export to the clipboard, and you cannot export FCPXML from a project with a transparent background.

    What the Export Dialog Shows

When Final Cut Pro XML is the format:

    • Resolution, Quality and Frame rate are hidden. They do not apply to an XML file.
    • A note shows under the format: "FCPXML 1.11 with absolute media paths. Overlays and effects are not included."
    • The footer shows FCPXML 1.11 and the timeline duration.

    What's Preserved / What's Not

    PreservedNot included
Video clips and cutsOverlays (text, shapes, annotations)
    Audio clipsEffects and filters
Speed changes (slow motion, fast forward)Background / wallpaper
    Volume adjustmentsZoom and pan animations
    MarkersCaptions and voiceover text
    💡

The FCPXML file points to your media with absolute file paths: the exact place of each file on disk. If you move, rename or delete those files, Final Cut Pro shows them as offline. Keep the media in place, or relink it in Final Cut Pro.

    Saving the File

A save panel titled Export to Final Cut Pro opens. The file name is your project name with the .fcpxml extension.

    1. Choose a destination folder.
    2. Click Save.

While ScreenKite writes the file, the status bar shows Exporting to Final Cut Pro XML....

    When the export is done:

    • The status bar shows a summary, for example Exported 2 tracks, 14 clips to FCPXML.
    • Skipped track types show in parentheses, for example (skipped: overlay).
    • Finder opens and shows the .fcpxml file.

To open the file in Final Cut Pro, double-click it in Finder, or drag it onto the Final Cut Pro icon.

If the export fails, ScreenKite shows FCPXML Export Failed.
