AI Chat Assistant
Edit and ask questions about your project with the built-in AI chat panel — no terminal required.
The AI Agent panel puts an AI agent inside the editor. Ask questions about your project or ask for edits. You do not need a terminal. The agent uses the same editing tools as the editor and as external agents.
The panel runs the agent you already use. You sign in to it with your own account: Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, Grok Build or Kimi.
Open the Panel
- Click AI Agent in the top toolbar. Or choose View → Show AI Agent (⇧⌘0).
- If ScreenKite asks you to sign in, click Sign In.
The panel opens on the left of the preview. The AI Agent panel and the Assets panel use the same place. When you open one, the other closes.
Right-click the AI Agent button for Show AI Agent or Hide AI Agent. A green dot on the button means the agent is running.
First Start
The first time, ScreenKite may need to install the chat module. The panel shows Loading Chat... while it works. You can keep editing.
If the install fails, the panel shows Chat Could Not Start. Click Retry. You can also click Choose Module... to select a chat module folder that you downloaded.
Ask and Edit
Examples of what you can ask:
- "How long is the timeline?"
- "Cut the first three seconds."
- "Add a scene layout from 10s to 20s."
- "Remove the filler words."
The agent reads the live project before it answers, so its answers match your timeline.
To give the agent context:
- Drag clips from the timeline or assets from the Assets panel into the chat.
- Click Attach files to attach files from your Mac.
- Right-click a clip or an asset and choose Add to Chat.
Approval Modes
The panel decides when to ask you before it applies an edit. Choose a mode:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Auto | Edits apply without asking. |
| Guarded (default) | Asks before deleting or overwriting. |
| Ask | Asks before every timeline change. |
The approval modes work only in the AI Agent panel. An agent that runs in a terminal is not gated. See Agentic Video Editing.
Resize or Hide the Panel
Drag the divider between the panel and the preview. The width is from 300 to 520 points. The default is 360. ScreenKite remembers the width and whether the panel is open.
To hide the panel, click AI Agent again.
