    Export a Section (In/Out Range)

    这篇文章尚未翻译到你的语言,当前显示英文版本。

    What a Section Export Is

A normal export renders your whole timeline. A section export renders only the part between an In point and an Out point, so a 20-minute recording can produce a 40-second clip without cutting anything away.

Nothing is deleted. The In/Out range is a selection, not an edit — clear it and your project is unchanged.

    Setting In and Out Points

    With the editor focused:

    1. Move the playhead to where the section should start and press I
    2. Move the playhead to where it should end and press O

The selected span is highlighted on the timeline ruler. Drag either handle to adjust it.

    ActionShortcut
    Set In PointI
    Set Out PointO
    Go to In Point⇧+I
    Go to Out Point⇧+O
    Clear In/Out Range⌥+X
    💡

You only need one of the two. Set an In point alone and the export runs from there to the end of the timeline. Set an Out point alone and it runs from the start of the timeline to that point.

    Clearing the Range

Press ⌥+X to remove the In/Out selection. You can also run Clear In/Out Range from the command palette.

    Exporting the Selection

Open the export dialog with ⌘+E. When a range is active, an Export Range picker appears with two options:

    • Full Timeline — render the whole project
    • In/Out Selection — render only the selected span

ScreenKite pre-selects In/Out Selection for you, so a range set on the timeline is what you get by default. The estimated file size and duration in the dialog follow the selected scope.

    ⚠️

The scope picker is hidden for Animated GIF and Final Cut Pro XML exports, which always cover the full timeline. It is also hidden while share via link is enabled. Switch to a video format, or turn link sharing off, and the picker returns with your range intact.

    Exporting a Marker's Range

If you tag sections while you record or edit, you do not need to set In/Out points by hand.

    1. Right-click a ranged tag in the markers lane
    2. Choose Export Range…

The tag's span becomes the In/Out selection and the export dialog opens with In/Out Selection already picked. Repeat per tag to export a long recording section by section.

This appears only for ranged tags. A point marker has no span, so its context menu does not offer it.

    Creating Ranged Tags

Ranged tags are the bands in the markers lane, and there are two ways to make one:

    • Drag across the markers lane to draw a band. The name field opens as soon as you release.
    • Press M to drop a marker, then M again where the section ends to extend it into a range. Press Escape to stop extending and keep the marker as a point.

Double-click a tag to name it. Right-click to set its type or delete it.

    ✅

Tagging as you go is the fastest way to cut a long session into shareable clips. Tag each chapter once, then export each one with two clicks.
