Loom to MP4: How to Convert and Save Loom Recordings Locally

Loom's cloud-first model makes it easy to share a link, but it becomes a major bottleneck when you need the actual video file. Whether you need to upload your recording to YouTube, import it into a video editor, or archive it on your local hard drive, you need a standard .mp4 file.

If you are on Loom's free Starter plan, the "Download" button is locked behind a paywall.

Here is how to get your videos out of Loom's cloud and save them locally as MP4 files.

Method 1: Use an Online Loom to MP4 Downloader

If you only have one or two public videos to save, you can use a web-based downloader tool:

1. Copy the shareable link of your Loom video (e.g., https://www.loom.com/share/...).
2. Go to an online Loom downloader page (like clipy.online or similar free downloaders).
3. Paste the URL into the input field.
4. Click Download and save the generated .mp4 file to your computer.

Warning: Avoid uploading private or sensitive videos to third-party conversion websites. If your video contains credentials, customer data, or internal source code, use the manual browser method below instead.

Method 2: Extract the MP4 URL via Chrome DevTools

For private videos where you cannot use a public third-party downloader, you can manually extract the source video link using your browser's developer console.

1. Open Chrome and log into your Loom account.
2. Open the video player page.
3. Open Developer Tools (Press Cmd + Option + I on Mac).
4. Go to the Network tab.
5. In the filter box, type .mp4 or search for transcoded-url.
6. Press play on the video.
7. Look for the media request, right-click it, and select Open in new tab.
8. Right-click the video player in the new tab and select Save Video As... to download the MP4.
