How to Add Images and Overlays to Screen Studio Recordings

You want a logo bug in the corner, a diagram that holds for five seconds, a PNG of the before/after UI, or a lower-third that is not the live webcam. That is still-image work on a timeline. Screen Studio users keep voting for it because the lightweight editor path does not treat images as ordinary media:

    • Add still images
    • Multiple layers in timeline

Often paired with annotation tools and full text slides.

You do not need to composite an exported MP4 in a second design tool.

    Short answer

Import the Screen Studio project into ScreenKite, then place PNGs and overlays on ScreenKite’s multi-track timeline.

Since ScreenKite 0.11, .screenstudio import preserves zooms, cursor motion, and timing. Images are then normal media with a duration you set.

    Do it in ScreenKite (numbered)

    1. Open ScreenKite.
    2. Choose File → Import Screen Studio project and select your .screenstudio bundle.
    3. Move the playhead to the insert point.
    4. File → Import Media… and choose PNG, JPEG, or WebP — or drag from Finder.
    5. Trim the still’s length on the timeline (stills need an explicit duration).
    6. Position and scale the overlay. Stack logo + diagram + text if the story needs it.
    7. Export once. Pro removes the watermark.
    8. Share via your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.

Keep a small folder of approved brand PNGs and reuse them across projects. When the logo updates, replace the media on the master timeline instead of re-recording every lesson.

    ℹ️

If your “image” is really a full-screen slide between chapters, that overlaps the full text slides Hub ask. Same underlying need: media on layers with duration — already normal on a multi-track timeline.

What “add images” covers in real demos

    • Brand kit: logo, color bar, end card
    • Explanatory stills: architecture diagrams, pricing tables as PNG
    • UI reference: old UI screenshot while you show the new UI live
    • Privacy covers: opaque panels when blur alone is not enough
    • Mid-video title frames built from a designed image

Webcam overlays solve “show my face.” They do not solve “show this diagram for four seconds.”

Screen Studio’s public facts call it a screen recorder + lightweight editor (llms.txt). Backgrounds and framing are first-class. Arbitrary timed PNG layers are the Hub gap.

    Why ScreenKite

ScreenKite is a native macOS recorder + multi-track timeline. Import Screen Studio polish, drop the still, set duration, export with the rest of the project.

After overlays are placed, use the AI agent to tighten timing. Optional MCP / CLI hooks for external agents are still evolving.

    Pricing contrast (product facts)

Screen Studio–class tools often sit around $108/year subscription rent while still images remain a Hub request. ScreenKite is free to create and edit; Pro removes the watermark; Pro is a one-time / founder-lifetime purchase. Last-minute logo swaps belong on a timeline you own — not a second-app composite.

Cross-platform & Roadmap: macOS is fully native; the Windows native Beta application is now available for download (powered by a dedicated Direct3D/C++23 engine), with a Chrome extension in development.

Creators and teams choose it because it pairs ultra-fast local hardware exports and built-in link sharing with timeline AI agent editing via Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, or Grok Build. Describe the cut; the agent does the trims.

    Tips for clean overlays

    • Export PNGs at 2× if you will scale them on retina timelines.
    • Leave margin from the edge so logos survive platform safe-areas.
    • Avoid busy full-frame images over dense UI.
    • Version filenames (logo-2026-03.png) so collaborators grab the right asset.

    Conclusion

Demos that teach need pictures as much as cursor motion. When still images and layers are still Hub requests, import the .screenstudio project into ScreenKite, drop the PNG, set the duration, and ship.
