How to Import Video Clips into a Screen Recording Project on Mac

You finished a product demo in Screen Studio. Now you need a second clip on the same timeline — an intro bumper, a close-up take, or B-roll from another recording. On the Screen Studio Hub, import clips / append external video is still a top request (often marked Planned), alongside merge multiple projects and multiple layers in timeline.

You do not need to hack Screen Studio or export-and-stitch in another editor.

Add images & video overlays in ScreenKite

    Short answer

Import the Screen Studio project into ScreenKite, then add clips on ScreenKite’s multi-track timeline.

In ScreenKite, you can import .screenstudio projects with zooms, cursor motion, and timing preserved. After import, clip insert is a normal timeline edit — not a Hub wishlist item.

    Do it in ScreenKite (numbered)

    1. Open ScreenKite.
    2. Choose File → Import Screen Studio project and select your .screenstudio bundle.
    3. Confirm the import. Your recording, zooms, cursor motion, and timing land on ScreenKite’s multi-track timeline.
    4. Move the playhead to where the extra clip should go.
    5. Drag a video file from Finder onto the timeline, or use File → Import Media….
    6. Trim the inserted clip, ripple as needed, and keep polishing zooms or cuts on the original take.
    7. Export a local MP4. Pro removes the watermark.
    8. Share via your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.

What you can add after import

    MediaWhat happens
Video (MP4, MOV, M4V)Lands on the main timeline at the playhead / drop point
Audio (MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC)Goes to an audio track
Images (PNG, JPEG, WebP)Still overlay with a duration you set

No intermediate export of the Screen Studio project. One master timeline. One render.

    💡

Your source media keeps its full quality on the way in. Edit, then export once from ScreenKite.

Why this is the right path

Screen Studio positions itself as a screen recorder + lightweight editor (llms.txt). That loop is great for a single polished take. Clip import, merge, and layered media are multi-track timeline jobs — which is why they keep appearing on the Hub.

ScreenKite is a native macOS recorder with a native Windows Beta and a real multi-track timeline. Record in ScreenKite, or bring Screen Studio work across with File → Import Screen Studio project, then finish the demo where multi-clip editing already exists.

Optional cleanup: ask ScreenKite’s AI agent to tighten joins or cut false starts. Power users can drive the same editor through MCP or the CLI.

    Pricing contrast (product facts)

Screen Studio–class lightweight tools often run a yearly subscription for polish on a single-capture loop — see Screen Studio's pricing page. ScreenKite is free to use with a watermark on exports, and a one-time Pro purchase removes it. Export locally and share from cloud storage you already own.

Any downsides? The only downside is there's almost no downside. We're video creators ourselves, so we know exactly what you need.

ScreenKite runs natively on macOS and ships a native Windows Beta. Creators and teams choose it for fast local exports and timeline editing with the AI agent they already use: Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, Grok Build or Kimi. Describe the cut, and the agent does the trims.

    Tips

    • Match frame rates when you can (60 fps recording + 30 fps insert still works; matching is cleaner).
    • Scrub to the exact frame, then import — the clip lands at the playhead.
    • Mute inserted-clip audio when your original narration should continue over the B-roll.
    • Split, ripple delete, and nudge work the same on imported clips as on the original recording.

    Conclusion

If the Hub still shows clip import as missing or Planned, stop waiting on a lightweight editor to become a timeline. Import the .screenstudio project into ScreenKite, drop the clips, export once, and ship.
