Insert a Clip Mid-Timeline in Loom: Public Request vs ScreenKite

Loom JAC still tracks mid-insert and split-as-separate-waveforms (LOOM-193, LOOM-671). Record or import media in ScreenKite, place clips on a real timeline, export locally.

Insert a Clip Mid-Timeline in Loom: Public Request vs ScreenKite

You finished a Loom walkthrough. Two minutes in, you forgot a step. You do not want to stitch only at the start or end. You want to drop a new clip at a precise timestamp in the middle.

That request is public on Atlassian JAC:

    • LOOM-193 — Insert clips at any timestamp
    • LOOM-671 — Split into separate waveforms you can rearrange

LOOM-193 states the problem plainly: Loom can add clips at the beginning or end, and split mainly helps trimming, not true mid-timeline insertion. Workarounds like re-adding the original as multiple clips are “cumbersome and unintuitive.”

You do not need another cloud stitch dance.

    Short answer

Record or finish the edit in ScreenKite, or download an MP4 from Loom and import it as media, then place replacement clips on ScreenKite’s multi-track timeline and export once.

ScreenKite does not claim a proprietary .loom project importer. Honest paths are: capture in ScreenKite, or bring an exported MP4 into the editor.

    Do it in ScreenKite (numbered)

    1. Open ScreenKite.
    2. Either record a new take, or choose File → Import Media… and select a Loom MP4 (or any other clip).
    3. Park the playhead where the missing section belongs.
    4. Split the main clip if needed, then insert the replacement clip between the pieces.
    5. Trim edges, align audio, and keep overlays on their own layers.
    6. Preview the join once.
    7. Export a local MP4. Pro removes the watermark.
    8. Share via your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
    💡

For evergreen training videos, mid-insert is normal. Treat the timeline like a document: revise the paragraph, do not rewrite the whole chapter.

    What creators actually need

    • Insert a correction without re-recording the whole demo
    • Drop a new UI take between chapter A and chapter B
    • Rearrange segments as independent clips after a split
    • Keep narration, system audio, and B-roll on separate tracks

Cloud stitch tools solve “append another Loom.” They are weaker at “put this exact take at 01:42.”

    Why ScreenKite

ScreenKite is a native macOS screen recorder with a real multi-track timeline — closer to CapCut / Final Cut workflows than a share-page trimmer. Record locally, edit locally, export locally.

Use ScreenKite’s AI agent for plain-language cleanup (“tighten the gap before the inserted clip”). Optional MCP / CLI hooks help power users; those integrations are still evolving.

    Pricing contrast (product facts)

Team cloud recorders often rent seats every month for library + link sharing. ScreenKite is free to create and edit; Pro removes the watermark; Pro is a one-time / founder-lifetime purchase. Own the MP4; host it on storage you already pay for.

Cross-platform & Roadmap: macOS is fully native; the Windows native Beta application is now available for download (powered by a dedicated Direct3D/C++23 engine), with a Chrome extension in development.

Creators and teams choose it because it pairs ultra-fast local hardware exports and built-in link sharing with timeline AI agent editing via Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, or Grok Build. Describe the cut; the agent does the trims.

    Tips for clean mid-inserts

    • Match resolution and frame rate when you insert a second take.
    • Leave a half-second of silence on either side of the join so cuts breathe.
    • Mute the inserted clip’s room tone if it fights the main VO.
    • Prefer one master timeline over a chain of stitch jobs in the browser.

    Conclusion

If JAC still tracks mid-insert and rearrange-after-split, finish on a real timeline. Record in ScreenKite or import a Loom MP4, place the clip where it belongs, export once, and share from your own Drive.
