Screen Studio 4.0 Problems: What Broke, What Was Rolled Back, and the Best Alternative

You hit export on a finished demo. The bar stops at 95%. Or 0%. Or the editor opens black. If that happened to you after updating to Screen Studio 4.0, you are not alone, and it is not your Mac.

    💡

ScreenKite is free to use. Every editing feature is free. One payment of $79.99 removes the export watermark, covers 3 Macs and never renews. Founder price until 2026-10-31, then $99.99. Native on Apple Silicon and Intel. Try ScreenKite

    What Screen Studio 4.0 users reported (Sept 27 – Oct 12, 2026)

Everything below comes from two public places: posts on X, and the official Screen Studio Telegram group, where the Screen Studio team answers support questions. Group members are not named. Staff are named by first name.

Exports that fail or never finish

    • "This is terrible! Three hours of my work just destroyed!" (a user in the official Screen Studio Telegram group, Sept 30, after an error during conversion)
    • An export error reading "frame … could not be decoded after 3 attempts" (Oct 2). Kaya from the team replied that developers were "currently working on a fix".
    • Exports stuck at 95% (Oct 3) and at 0% (Oct 11).
    • "I can not export my video. This is third time now." Then, after updating: "Am on this version but still export is failing" (Oct 7–8).
    • On X, @HariBonda wrote in a reply: "Since v4, parallel batch exports frequently crash/fail overnight, unlike stable v3. … how to roll back to v3?"
    • @attacomsian: "Screen Studio almost froze my Mac while exporting a 1 min 4K video. memory spiked to 8.43 GB during the export. for a screen recorder 😭"

A black editor on Intel Macs

    • "Seems the new update has rendered this software useless." (a user in the official Telegram group, Oct 2, editor black even for old projects)
    • An Intel MacBook Pro 2019 owner saw "a blank screen now, for both old and new projects" (Oct 6). Kaya replied that on Intel machines it is "a known issue".
    • An Intel MacBook Pro with an AMD Radeon Pro 5500M: "the editor preview is black and export fails" (Oct 8).
    • On X, @theDanielJLewis: "Anyone else having trouble with @screenstudio v4 not recording your screen or camera, only audio and zoom ranges? … I'm worried this is an Intel problem."
    • @uiux_hamad, in a reply: "Screen Studio isn't usable for me with this issue." A Screen Studio team member pointed him to the beta, noting "an issue with Intel Macs that have an AMD GPU".

    Features removed "temporarily"

    • Users asked where "Improve microphone audio", audio enhancement, mono-to-stereo and mic boost went (Oct 1–9).
    • Kaya (Oct 4–5): "The audio enhancement features are temporarily in Screen Studio Beta right now".
    • Oktawia (Oct 9): "We've temporarily rolled back these features."
    • Oktawia (Oct 7), on VoiceOver: "we're still working on some fixes. We're also in the process of bringing back the VoiceOver feature, though I can't promise when that will be completed."
    • On X, @direwolfram: "Was the Improve microphone audio removed in the latest version?"

    New regressions

From the Telegram group: mouse size set to zero in every clip, cut sections still playing, the same footage appearing in different projects (Oct 3); cursor jumps added automatically with "no way to disable or undo this" (Oct 7, 4.0.4); and on Oct 12, with 4.0.4, a voice playing "approximately 1.5 seconds earlier than the position indicated by the waveform".

    Pricing and support

A Lifetime license holder wrote that they are "now being offered an upgrade for USD 89 per year" (Oct 8). Another user wrote "my msgs were deleted from Support channel!" (Oct 8). Another: "I SUBMITTED THIS SOME DAYS AGO AND. ON ONE IS GIVING IT ATTENTION" (Oct 8); Oktawia apologised the next day.

    The fix timeline
