Screen Studio Stuck at 95% Export? How to Rescue Your Project
Does your Screen Studio export freeze right at the end? Learn how to clear render caches, free up system memory, and rescue your project files.
Screen Studio Stuck at 95% Export? How to Rescue Your Project
You spent hours recording and editing, clicked export, and watched the progress bar climb to 95%—only to freeze. The timer stops, your Mac's fans spin, and the video never finishes.
This is a known issue. The 95% stall typically occurs during the final concatenation phase, where the audio and video tracks are multiplexed into the final container. If the application's Electron wrapper runs out of temporary disk space or encounters a corrupted frame cache, the process hangs.
Here is how to troubleshoot the stall and rescue your video project.
The ScreenKite Grand Slam Deal: Skip the export freezes. ScreenKite includes a native Screen Studio project importer. If your export is stuck, you can import your .screenstudio project file directly into ScreenKite and render it in seconds using our Metal pipeline. Free during beta. Download ScreenKite for Mac →
1. Verify and Free Up Temporary Disk Space
During the final export stage, Screen Studio requires substantial temporary disk space to compile the video tracks.
- Rule of thumb: You need at least 40 GB of free space on your system SSD to render high-resolution 4K or long video projects.
- Go to System Settings > General > Storage to verify your available space and delete cached files if necessary.
2. Clear Screen Studio's Internal Cache
Corrupted render caches can block the final export steps. You can clear these caches to resolve the hang:
- Close Screen Studio.
- Open Finder.
- Press
Cmd + Shift + Gand navigate to:~/Library/Application Support/Screen Studio/
- Locate the Cache or RenderCache folder and delete it.
- Reopen the app and try exporting again.
3. Disable Hardware Acceleration Flags
If your GPU encoder is overloaded by other applications (like video editors or web browsers), it can crash during the final render pass. Close all background applications before starting the export to give the app full hardware access.
The Secure Alternative: Recover via ScreenKite
If troubleshooting fails, you do not have to re-record your video.
Because ScreenKite features a built-in project importer, you can open your .screenstudio files natively. ScreenKite translates the zoom keyframes, timelines, and camera tracks, rendering them on a hardware-accelerated Metal pipeline that avoids Electron memory leaks and completes exports in a fraction of the time.
