How to Add Chapters to a Screen Recording
YouTube chapters need timestamps in the description, starting at 00:00. Ask your ScreenKite agent for a chapter list, review it, keep the lines you want, then paste them under the upload.
Short answer: ask your agent for a chapter list, review the lines, keep the ones you want, and paste them into the YouTube description. YouTube's own help says the first stamp is 00:00, you need at least three, and each chapter is at least 10 seconds.

What does YouTube require?
YouTube's Video Chapters help tells you to add timestamps and titles in the description:
- The first stamp starts at 00:00.
- You need at least three stamps, in order.
- Each chapter is at least 10 seconds.
Your list overrides automatic chapters. You can also leave automatic chapters on if the video qualifies.
How do you get a chapter list from ScreenKite?
- Finish the cut. Chapters follow the edit, not the raw take.
- Turn on transcription so the agent can read the words.
- Open the agent you already pay for in the project. Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, Grok Build or Kimi all drive the same editor. The ScreenKite AI fee is $0.
- Ask for a chapter list first. A prompt that works:
Read this ScreenKite project. Propose YouTube chapters that start at 00:00, use at least three stamps, and keep each chapter 10 seconds or longer. Show the list. Do not change the timeline until I say yes.
- Read the list. Drop a stamp that is too close to the last one. Rename a line that is vague.
- Keep the list. Paste it into the YouTube description and save, as the help page describes.
Generated chapters come back as a list first. A second step applies them, so you keep only the lines you want.
How does a hand-typed list compare with an agent list?
| Need | Type it by hand | ScreenKite with your agent |
|---|---|---|
| How you start | Watch the file and pause | Ask for a chapter list |
| What you review | Your own notes | A stamp-and-title list |
| YouTube rules | You check the help | Same rules. You keep or edit the lines |
| After the list | Paste into the description | Paste the same way |
What should each line look like?
00:00 Cold open 00:18 Record the window 01:02 Cut the dead air 01:40 Export
Titles stay short. The stamp is the start of that beat.
How is ScreenKite built?
ScreenKite is a native macOS app for macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel. It ships a native Windows Beta. The editor exposes 83 purpose-built editing tools, shaped by tens of thousands of hours of video-editing practice. You click those tools. Your agent drives the same ones.
Any downsides? The only downside is there's almost no downside, because we're video creators ourselves and know what users need.
ScreenKite runs natively on macOS and ships a native Windows Beta. It's lightning fast, in our tests and in user feedback, and you edit on the timeline with the AI agent you already use: Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, Grok Build or Kimi. Describe the cut, and the agent does the trims.
