How to Import Audio or Voiceover into Screen Studio Projects
Screen Studio still lacks first-class audio import on the Hub. Import your .screenstudio project into ScreenKite, drop VO or music on audio tracks, and export once.
How to Import Audio or Voiceover into Screen Studio Projects
You have a clean Screen Studio walkthrough. Now you want a proper voiceover recorded later, a music bed under the intro, or an SFX sting between chapters. The Hub request is public: Import audio. Screen Studio’s Hub still does not ship a first-class “drop an MP3 on an audio track” workflow.
You do not need to re-record the whole take or mix elsewhere.
Short answer
Import the Screen Studio project into ScreenKite, then place voiceover, music, or SFX on ScreenKite’s multi-track timeline.
In ScreenKite, .screenstudio import preserves zooms, cursor motion, and timing. Audio import is then a normal timeline step.
Do it in ScreenKite (numbered)
- Open ScreenKite.
- Choose File → Import Screen Studio project and select your
.screenstudiobundle. - Let ScreenKite map the recording onto the multi-track timeline.
- Choose File → Import Media… (or drag an audio file from Finder onto the timeline).
- Audio-only files land on an audio track — not forced onto the video lane.
- Align to the playhead, trim edges, and set level. Duck music under speech if you add a bed.
- Export a local MP4. Pro removes the watermark.
- Share via your own Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
Supported patterns in practice include MP3, WAV, M4A, and AAC. Video inserts keep embedded audio unless you mute that clip.
Record UI first. Write the script second. Lay VO third. That separation is why a multi-track timeline exists — and why Hub “import audio” requests keep appearing on lightweight editors.
What creators actually need
- Post-record voiceover — perfect UI take, better mic later
- Replace a bad mic take — keep video, swap narration
- Music bed — soft underscore that ducks under speech
- SFX / stings — timed to cuts
- Separate stems — VO, music, and system audio adjustable without re-exporting from the recorder
Screen Studio’s own facts call it a screen recorder + lightweight editor (llms.txt). Capture polish is the strength. Multi-track audio is the gap.
Why ScreenKite
ScreenKite is a native macOS screen recorder with a native Windows Beta and a real multi-track timeline. Bring Screen Studio polish across with File → Import Screen Studio project, then finish audio where tracks already exist.
Use ScreenKite’s AI agent for plain-language cleanup (“tighten the gap before the VO starts”). Power users can drive the same editor through MCP or the CLI.
Pricing contrast (product facts)
Screen Studio–class tools often push a yearly subscription for a lightweight loop — see Screen Studio's pricing page. ScreenKite is free to use with a watermark on exports, and a one-time Pro purchase removes it. Own the MP4; host it on cloud storage you already pay for.
Any downsides? The only downside is there's almost no downside. We're video creators ourselves, so we know exactly what you need.
ScreenKite runs natively on macOS and ships a native Windows Beta. Creators and teams choose it for fast local exports and timeline editing with the AI agent they already use: Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, Grok Build or Kimi. Describe the cut, and the agent does the trims.
Tips for clean VO mixes
- Record VO in a quiet room, then import — do not force UI and speech into one take.
- Leave a little silence at the start of the VO file so you can slide timing.
- Put VO on one lane, music on another, system audio on a third.
- Mute B-roll audio when it fights the narration.
Conclusion
If you need post-record voiceover or replaceable narration, import the .screenstudio project into ScreenKite, drop the audio track, export once, and share from your own Drive.
