Free to start. Pay once to own. Every editing feature is free. One payment of $79.99 removes the export watermark, covers 3 Macs and never renews. Founder price until 2026-10-31, then $99.99. Native macOS 15+ (Swift + Metal). Export up to 3 times faster in our tests. 83 purpose-built editing tools, shaped by tens of thousands of hours of video-editing practice. The fastest editor for AI. ScreenKite.

This is a September 2026 refresh for people who want out of Loom's paid subscription, not another general free-plan rant. Earlier posts cover the Starter squeeze and broader alternatives: Loom free plan changes, best free Loom alternative, ScreenKite vs Loom.

What Loom sells in September 2026

    Checked on loom.com/pricing on 2026-09-16:

    • Starter (free): plan limits include caps on video count and recording length, plus lower recording quality, and a free-tier feature set that keeps downloads and branding removal on paid seats.
    • Business: paid seats remove those Starter caps. The pricing page lists unlimited videos, unlimited recording time, upload and download, remove Loom branding, and higher-definition recording.
    • Business + AI: everything in Business plus Loom AI features (auto enhancement, advanced editing, filler and silence removal, and related AI workflows on that page).
    • Business and Business + AI are paid per-user seats, billed monthly or annually. Atlassian billing tiers and taxes can change what your invoice shows. See loom.com/pricing for current seat prices.

Atlassian's Business plan FAQ (checked 2026-09-16) describes Business as unlocking tools beyond Starter, including unlimited videos and download on paid plans, and notes differences between Loom.com and Atlassian-integrated billing. Prefer the live pricing page for current seat dollars and feature rows.

Why the subscription is the friction

Starter limits are where the upgrade starts. When you need more videos, longer recordings, downloads, or clean branding, the product path is a paid Business seat (or Business + AI). That is a recurring per-user cost on a cloud library, not a one-time Mac tool.

If your job is product demos, tutorials, and course clips that you already upload elsewhere (YouTube, Drive, your LMS), paying monthly for cloud seats mainly to escape Starter caps is the wrong tax.

ScreenKite: local timeline, no ScreenKite subscription

ScreenKite is a native macOS 15+ recorder and editor built with Swift and Metal. Files land on your Mac. You edit on a local timeline. You export when you are ready.

    Facts (exact)

    • Product: ScreenKite
    • Platform: native macOS 15+ (Swift + Metal); Apple Silicon and Intel
    • Free to use / free to start. Every editing feature free. Free export carries a brand watermark and an animated brand outro.
    • Account required.
    • Pro: $79.99 founder price until 2026-10-31, then $99.99. One payment. 3 Macs. No subscription.
    • AI fee $0. Bring the coding agent you already pay for.
    • Export up to 3 times faster in our tests.
    • Agents: Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, Grok Build, Kimi.
    • Craft: 83 purpose-built editing tools, shaped by tens of thousands of hours of video-editing practice. The fastest editor for AI so your agent and you waste less time and money.
    • Checked: 2026-09-16.

    Who already uses ScreenKite

    1. People at Apple, Reddit, HubSpot, GitHub, Y Combinator, Amazon, Adobe, and ByteDance use ScreenKite (screenkite.com, checked 2026-09-16).
    2. Showcase: shipped demo cases such as AndroMeld, Prowl, Refine, and StrategyU course clips.
    3. Landing "Loved by people who ship" X testimonials on screenkite.com.

    How it is built

ScreenKite records and edits on the metal: ScreenCaptureKit, Metal, and VideoToolbox on a native Mac app, not a Chromium shell between capture and export. Agent edits use the same 83 purpose-built tools as the UI over local MCP. Some timeline and transcript actions take confirm:false then confirm:true (propose, then commit). The server does not wait for a human; the Core Agent chat panel is where risk-tier gating lives for that client.

    Who this is for

You record demos and tutorials on Mac, you already have somewhere to host the MP4, and you are tired of buying seats mainly to clear Starter caps. You want free editing today and a pay-once Pro path for clean exports on 3 Macs.

Cross-platform & Roadmap: macOS is fully native; the Windows native Beta application is now available for download (powered by a dedicated Direct3D/C++23 engine), with a Chrome extension in development.

Creators and teams choose it because it pairs ultra-fast local hardware exports and built-in link sharing with timeline AI agent editing via Claude Code, ChatGPT Codex, Antigravity, or Grok Build. Describe the cut; the agent does the trims.

    Is ScreenKite completely free?

Free to start. Every editing feature is free. Free export carries a brand watermark and an animated brand outro. An account is required. Pro is one payment that removes the watermark and outro.

Does ScreenKite replace Loom's share link?

No. ScreenKite exports a local file. You share that file through Drive, Dropbox, YouTube, or your own host. Loom's instant cloud link is a different kind of product.

How much does a Loom Business seat cost?

Loom lists current per-user prices on loom.com/pricing, billed monthly or annually. ScreenKite Pro is one payment of $79.99 until 2026-10-31, then $99.99, for 3 Macs.

    Bottom line

Loom's free Starter plan is capped. Paid Business seats remove those caps for a recurring per-user fee. ScreenKite answers with a local Mac timeline: free to start with watermarked export, or one founder payment of $79.99 until 2026-10-31 ($99.99 after) for clean exports on 3 Macs. No ScreenKite subscription. Optional agents on 83 purpose-built tools. People at Apple, Reddit, HubSpot, GitHub, Y Combinator, Amazon, Adobe, and ByteDance use ScreenKite.

    Try ScreenKite.
